Interconnection of agricultural data sharing services in Finland and Flanders to support potato farming

Project Details

Description

General introduction

Digital data from the potato production chain have been successfully shared for the first time between two professional agricultural data sharing platforms in Belgium and Finland. This happened in the cross-border Potato-X project. The platform experts integrated the two existing agricultural data systems: a common data space was developed in which legal, business and operational frameworks are defined for managing cross-border data.

Research approach

In concrete terms, a connection has been established between the Belgian platform DjustConnect and the Finnish platform Tritom, both operating in their own languages ??and with their own systems. The connection enables Finnish farmers to receive data from AVR potato harvesters from Belgium, translate it into Finnish and convert it to their own platform. The project included the technical coupling of both platforms, making AVR data visible in Finnish farm management systems, testing automatic contracts and expanding existing rules for data sharing, tailored to potato cultivation.

Relevance/Valorisation

This project is a first for international data sharing in the agricultural sector. It will be a practical example to follow for other data sharing initiatives within the AgriDataSpace. It shows a feasible, scalable route for cross-border cooperation. Potato-X shows how other initiatives can get started, both technically, legally and commercially.
