Networking European farms to enhance cross fertilisation and innovation uptake through demonstration

Project Details

Main research question/goal

NEFERTITI aims to establish 10 interactive thematic networks and bring together 45 regional clusters (hubs) of demo-farmers and the involved actors (e.g. advisors, NGO's, industry, education, researchers and policy makers) in 17 countries. NEFERTITI focuses on creating added value from the exchange of knowledge, actors and farmers and technical content over the networks to boost innovation uptake, to improve peer to peer learning and network connectivity between farm actors across Europe.

Research approach

The NEFERTITI networks address 10 themes that have been chosen based on key concerns of the farming communities of the regional hubs in the project. They cover the sectors of animal production, arable farming and horticultural production. Networks will be built by connecting already existing networks with each other and other important actors. A monitoring and learning program registers and supports to the degree that lessons have been learned and lessons can be shared with wider audiences.

We expect that NEFERTITI will get a key role as accelerator and amplifier of the spread and integration of practice-oriented knowledge through on farm demonstration. Knowledge from diverse EIP-related projects will be shared, also the themes are strongly related to the H2020 Thematic Networks. The connection to other organisational structures at grass roots level (e.g. EIP Operational Groups and study clubs) is promising. A web-based platform in the languages of all project partners will contain experiences, actors, demo details and related content. Further, the project engages in a policy dialogue to match farmers' and policy makers' interests regarding network sustainability.
