Main research question/goal
The project “Strategies and instruments for reimbursement of agricultural public services” is financed by the Agency for Innovation by Science and Technology (IWT). The aim of this project is to look for strategies and instruments that could be used by farmers to valorize and organize the provisioning of public services. The ILVO research focuses on the opportunities for cooperation among farmers and “users” of public goods and services.
The Social Sciences Unit of ILVO is responsible for two research parts of this project. First, we research three existing innovative agro-environmental arrangements in Flanders, analyzing the different relationships between suppliers and users of green and blue services. Second, we conduct research on care services in agriculture in Flanders. The main question is why and to what extent care services in agriculture can contribute to synergetic practices and coalitions that improve and stimulate innovative relationships between these two actors. Using analytical subscriptions of different cases we evaluate the current state of both themes.
Stimulation and encouragement of sustainable agriculture is an important theme in both European and national current agricultural policy. Agricultural public services can contribute to realizing the sustainability objectives. Results of this project are relevant for all actors (government and other organizations) that call for agricultural public services, as well as for the farmers that offer (or wish to offer) public services.
