Empowering bioeconomy projects by deploying Technical, Business, Regulatory and Social assistance services

Project Details

Description

General introduction

To replace fossil-fuel based products and systems with bioeconomy products (made from non-fossil, renewable materials), Europe aims to set up broad and smart guidance. The European Partnership ToBeReaL focuses on technical support, business and financial assistance, legal bottlenecks and social innovations for start-ups and already existing initiatives that want to turn local, bio-based resources into valuable valorizations. The consortium aims to foster more collaborations with other bioeconomy projects. Both public, private and public-private initiatives enter the "catalyst.

Research approach

The researchers first conduct a thorough analysis of the current needs and obstacles of bioeconomy projects in Europe, with a special focus on less developed regions. The challenges and opportunities within the bioeconomy sector are also identified and policy makers, companies, investors and sector organizations are made aware of the many opportunities of the bioeconomy. The partnership then develops a support framework, including a portfolio of services, to provide tailored guidance to selected projects. During three rounds of applications, a minimum of 30 projects will be chosen and supported. The goal is for some of these projects to become flagship projects within five years through intensive mentoring, tailored advice and consultancy.

Relevance/Valorisation

ToBeReaL strengthens the bioeconomy in various value chains. Valorization of local biological resources and ecosystem services are effectively promoted. The initiative improves access to financial, legal and technical support for BE projects at all stages of technological development, which is crucial for promoting sustainable value chains across Europe. ToBeReaL's long-term plan ensures a structural change toward a bio-based economy, with the ultimate goal of a significant increase in successful, large-scale bioeconomy projects. Europe expects the number of successful flagship projects in Europe to increase.
