Description
The WE BUILD Consortium is a large-scale, European collaboration consisting of public authorities, private companies, academic institutions, and technology providers. Together, they aim to design, implement, and test a trusted digital business identity ecosystem based on the European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDIW) framework. The goal is to make identification, legal representation, and data sharing easier and more consistent across platforms and national borders. ILVO leads the Use Case on using these wallets for trusted data sharing for data spaces.
Research approach
This use case tests how the use of EUID wallets can simplify onboarding in a data space. Three data sharing platforms that will be members of CEADS (Common European Agricultural Data Space) are participating in this case. They are already testing how, through the use of credentials of natural and legal persons stored in EUID wallets, a data provider, buyer or farmer only needs to go through registration processes once, but can call on the results of the entire system of interoperable data sharing systems. Simple procedures are also being tested that can later be used for data sharing and governance mechanisms within and between data spaces.
Relevance/Valorisation
The administrative burden for data providers and buyers and farmers will be reduced when onboarding a data space. The use of simple procedures, which can later also serve for data sharing and governance mechanisms themselves, could increase opportunities for cross-border data sharing. This enhances the practical usability of CEADS and increases confidence in data-driven collaboration in the agri-food chain.
