Abstract
Local pig breeds differ from modern breeds and show a higher capacity to deposit fat and limited protein deposition (Čandek-Potokar et al., 2019). Additionally, they are reared in diverse production systems and are assumed to be more resistant to environmental conditions. These facts make their phenotype more complex and assessing nutritional needs, based on the knowledge obtained on modern pig breeds, inaccurate. It has been recently shown by Brossard et al. (2019) that their growth characteristics can be modeled and nutritional requirements assessed using InraPorc® software (van Milgen et al., 2008). Based on the knowledge obtained in the fore-mentioned study, a multiphase feeding sequencing plan was designed for Krškopolje pigs, a fatty type local pig breed, and tested in two production systems – outdoor, and indoor with the aim to evaluate i) growth potential and ii) basic nutritional needs in different production systems. Present work aims to report the preliminary results.
