Translated title of the contribution: Study of the economic effect of implementation of alternatives to reduce the use of antibiotics: On closed farrow-to-finish pig farms the use of antibiotics can substantially be reduced by implementing biosecurity measures and vaccinations without negatively affecting the economic performance. These are the results of a study that investigated 50 farrow-to-finish pig farms in Flanders. This study was performed by ILVO in collaboration with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Ghent University.

    Abstract

    Op gesloten varkensbedrijven kunnen antibiotica substantieel worden gereduceerd door toepassing van bioveiligheidsmaatregelen en gerichte vaccinaties, zonder de economische prestaties in het gedrang te brengen. Dit blijkt uit een studie bij een 50-tal Vlaamse gesloten varkensbedrijven, uitgevoerd door het ILVO, in samenwerking met de Faculteit Diergeneeskunde van UGent.
