Hilde Wustenberghs, Ludwig Lauwers, Stijn Overloop

Research output: Book/ReportReport

This publication intends to draw a picture of the relationship between agriculture & fisheries on the one hand and the environment on the other hand. It was realised as the background document for the annual Environment and Nature report MIRA T ( The objective is to give a scientific explanation and more elaborate information to accompany the corresponding chapter in MIRA T 2004. Thus a state of affairs mid-2004 is presented.
This document aims at describing all relevant effects of agriculture and fisheries on the environment, i.e. both environmental damages and positive effects caused by the sector. Therefore data on environmental pressure (resource use and emissions) and on environmental benefits (service) are linked to the activities that cause them. These driving forces (D indicators) are compared to the environmental pressure (P indicators) through indicators of eco-efficiency. The indicators’ evolution is checked against the policy goals. Finally, policy instruments and measures (R indicators) are evaluated.
