Abstract
Precision monitoring systems are widely developed. They are surrounded by many claims and anticipations about the benefits on livestock production and health. Empirical evidence for these claims is falling behind. A conceptual framework is needed to guide analysis.
Development of precision monitoring systems should be an interdisciplinary activity. Economists should be involved from the very beginning.
Several aspects might influence the pathway from data to value.
