COSTaction IS1007 'Investigating cultural sustainability'Due to the wide definition of culture, it can be seen as a very crucial issue, even as a precondition to be met on the way to sustainable development. However, the theoretical and conceptual understanding of culture within the general frames of sustainability is vague, and consequently, the role of culture in the political framework of sustainable development has remained under-emphasized. Therefore the ultimate goal of the proposed COST –Action is to strengthen the understanding and role of culture in sustainable development by scientific means. This will be carried out 1) by investigating the concept of culture in the context of sustainable development thorough multidisciplinary approach and analyses; 2) by integrating culture with the other dimensions of sustainability; 3) by developing means for assessing the impacts of culture on sustainable development, and 4) by examining the best practices for bringing culture into policy and practical domains. The results of the Actions will be exploited by the scientific community as well as policy makers, administrative personnel and practitioners working with sustainability and culture at all scales from the EU to the local level.
