Uittreksel
Grass/clover mixtures contribute to agricultural sustainability. To improve red clover cultivars we investigate architectural aspects that may lead to higher yield, re-growth and persistency. The number of buds and the quantity and position of bud outgrowth was analysed in six qua branching different genotypes. Comparable results were obtained for two environments, suggesting good heritability of branching. The influence of the branching hormones auxin and strigolactone on bud outgrowth was studied. Differences in bud outgrowth inhibition was observed after hormone application. Furthermore, the expression of important branching genes was analysed on different tissues. Future challenge will be to apply this knowledge in breeding programs to produce plants with improved persistence.
