Uittreksel
Molecular cytogenetics on Rosa, an economically important genus within the Rosaceae, are very limited. However, progress in chromosome organisation studies would greatly facilitate Rosa breeding, sequencing and taxonomic studies. By the development of the “SteamDrop” protocol (Kirov et al., 2014a) it is now possible to prepare high quality mitotic and meiotic chromosome slides, also for roses. This opens many opportunities for further cytogenetic studies in roses. In this paper, an overview is given of the molecular cytogenetic studies already performed on Rosa species and opportunities for further studies are discussed in the context of upcoming modern sequencing technologies.
