Uittreksel
Chromosome doubling is a frequently used strategy in breeding programs. Nowadays, in ornamentals mostly in vitro polyploidisation protocols are used, since for many plant species already good micropropagation protocols are established. Compared to the in vivo applications of antimotitotic agents, tissue culture protocols offer a broader pallet of methods that can be evaluated for polyploidisation. Here we give an overview on in vitro polyploidisation methods with practical examples on herbaceous and woody ornamentals species: Helleborus, Ranunculus, Spathiphyllum, Buddleja and Rhododendron.
