In September 2011, a single Drosophila suzukii fruit fly was found in Belgium for the first time. Soft fruit and stone fruit production are an important segment of the Belgian agricultural production, thus an intensive monitoring program of this new pest was initiated in 2012 throughout the country. Screening was continued in 2013 and 2014, and attractant traps were used to study the overwintering potential of D. suzukii during the winter of 2014-2015.
